Onomichi is one of those places that ought to be crawling with tourists, but weirdly it isn’t. Beautiful weather, historical shopping arcade, cool museums, ropeway up to a majestic observational platform, temples and shrines, and of course the crowning jewel is the Shimanami Kaido island-hopping bicycle route that goes all the way to Shikoku. Rent an electric bike and toodle through Mukaishima, Innoshima (if you are a fan of Hikaru no Go or of go in general, there is a certain grave site you may wish to pay homage to here), and Ikuchi (don’t miss the Hill of Hope), and take a ferry back to complete the day trip.

Also, apparently the video game Yakuza 6 was set here! [This screenshot](https://shared.fastly.steamstatic.com/store_item_assets/steam/apps/1388590/ss_d6b56425a0f2c950cc2d5b37569d39891978ea6e.jpg) looks like it could have come right from OP’s photo album.
