  1. Japan has literally always had tourists, usually they were personal trips on the pretence of pilgrimages to holy sites

    I imagine a fair few of them would pass through Kyoto, given its significance

  2. Incredible how similar it still looks today. I’ve only been there a few times but I know exactly where this was taken.

  4. It really is a blessing that it had no strategic use in WW2, it’s a beautiful city and it woulda been quite the loss (not to negate the loss of the many other cities)

  5. I took a photo in basically this same spot last week. Im surprised how similar they look, although its much more developed now.

  6. This street in particular was used heavily by travelers on a pilgrimage to Kiyomizudera

  7. Except for the castle, this looks like your average suburban latin american neighborhood
