I’m half Japanese ( not American) and I lived in Okinawa for a bit. I know there’s historical context behind the U.S. military presence, but I was honestly shocked by how much land the bases still take up it felt like such a huge part of the island was sectioned off.
I’m genuinely curious how Okinawans feel about it today. Do people in this thread support the U.S. presence? Or is there a lot of frustration around it? It made me a bit sad to see such a beautiful place so heavily occupied. Would really love to hear local perspectives.
