Teachers sharing indecent photos of girls in a group chat elicits outrage

Two elementary school teachers in Japan were arrested for secretly taking and sharing explicit “upskirt” photos of young girls in a private online group of at least a dozen educators. Investigators seized around 70 illicit photos and videos, including deepfake content merging children’s faces with sexual imagery, some reportedly taken on school premises. The scandal has ignited widespread public outrage and alarm among parents, prompting emergency meetings, apologies from education officials, and a heightened search for any co-conspirators. Authorities are using the case to push for reforms, including a UK-style disclosure and barring system for school workers, to address loopholes in Japan’s current child protection laws

  1. Stuff like this is why mental health treatment is so important. This is a systemic issue and it’s leading to the abuse of women and children. I know improvements have been made regarding sex crimes and children abuse, but more are needed. And that includes mental health support.

  2. Sees title: well, that’s a problem.

Reads first words: ah shit, that’s even worse.

  3. >Some of the images shared in the group were manipulated using artificial intelligence to produce sexual deepfakes. Chat records showed members praising each other’s posts, with comments such as “This one’s really good,” according to Chunichi Shimbun, citing police sources.

Yeah this is going to be a problem that needs to be rapidly addressed by governments everywhere somehow, and governments with an embedded old guard tend to move like freaking molasses, particularly when it comes to tech. Image manipulation has existed for a long time obviously but now with machine-learning you can just punch in a prompt using an ordinary photo of them to make some horrible stuff in a manner of minutes; not too long ago a boy in the U.S. commit suicide over deepfakes of him even though everyone knew it wasn’t real.

  4. Wait, private online group of a dozen educators and only two were arrested? Why not all of them? Sick bastards
