China lifts ban on Japanese seafood imports imposed in 2023

TL;DR
China lifted its ban on Japanese seafood imports imposed in August 2023 following the release into the sea of treated radioactive wastewater from the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant. The move apparently reflects China's interest in improving ties with Japan at a time when it is engaging in a trade war with the United States.

  1. China, the country that releases far more radioactive materials to its own waters than Fukushima, has lifted this ban?

You know, the same China that bans protests against their government but promotes anti-Japan protests?

    That China? You don’t say…

  2. How big a market was this for Japan? Or is it just more the symbolic aspect? I know that China is one of Japan’s biggest trading partners generally speaking, but I don’t know how large a portion seafood is of that.

My understanding is the bulk is things like vehicles and vehicle parts by far.

That said, I am sure the symbolic aspect is important, and it can only be beneficial if relations continue to improve.

  3. Wouldn’t surprise me if they are rallying economics to protect against the far more toxic Donald Trump.
