I’m looking to move to and work in Japan after I finish my undergraduate (in the UK, studying English Literature).
I am quite handy with numbers and tech, I’m currently working part time as a UX writer.
I’m also largely fluent in Japanese, give or take a few cultural faux pas from a lack of conversation.
I’m wondering what are the opportunities for work in the humanities/social sciences/arts sectors in Japan. I would ideally avoid teaching elementary/high school but am open to getting a Masters/PhD in order to lecture.
I’ve done a lot of research on this topic, but typically come up with the same trifecta of translator, teacher, or IT worker.
Would it be possible for me to find work as a journalist, or a UX writer like I do now? How much of a disadvantage am I at because I’m a foreigner?
Thank you in advance for any responses. I’m also open to staying here for a few years, saving and building my resume before moving.
