Hey !
I'm planning to attend Akamonkai school in Tokyo in April 2026. I recently learned that every student must prove 150 hours of Japanese study or, at the very least, hold a JLPT N5 level.
I haven’t taken any official lessons and have never tried the JLPT. However, I estimate my level to be around N4, as I lived in Japan for a year.
Unfortunately, it’s too late for me to take the JLPT in July, and waiting for the December session would make it impossible to meet the April 2026 deadline. As far as I know, there are no other JLPT alternatives available in France.
After a bit of panic, someone told me it’s actually quite easy to prove your Japanese level to the school by stating that you’ve studied on your own. But how easy is it, really? Do I need to write a letter or provide some kind of documentation?
Thanks a lot in advance!
