Hiya!
I'd like to better understand the state of domestic politics in Japan, since a lot of what's covered in western media can be pretty sensationalist and would love reliable resources to learn more in English.
I'm not here to talk US politics (want to stick within the rules of the sub!), but a lot of what's happened here seems to be spreading to many first world nations. The rise of fascism globally is concerning, and while no country is perfect, I'm trying to make the best decision I can for stable government that isn't hell bent on austerity measures and authoritarianism. I'm not rushing to leave tomorrow, I want to consider what these nations will look like 10, 15 years from now.
Japan has long been a dream of mine I put on hold due to COVID and focused on my career and health in the US, till now. I'm considering all my visa options but am not in a rush, and it's not what this post is about.
Is Japan in danger of falling back into authoritarianism in the future? Is the aging population issue exaggerated or comparable to other western nations? How divided are domestic politics? Are women and queer rights increasing like in the past, or have they stalled, regressed? How is the future of the Yen looking?
Thank you!
