Over 800 suspected of cheating on TOEIC English exam in Japan

TL;DR At least 803 people in Japan are suspected of cheating on the TOEIC English exam between May 2023 and June 2025. The Institute for International Business Communication nullified their results and banned them from retaking the test for five years. The widespread fraud is suspected to have been organized by a Chinese group.

  1. Not feeling bad anymore that some of my JLPT answers were inspired by the surrounding well prepared vietnamese in my room 😅

  2. I hear many complaints about Chinese tourists, Chinese buying and scalping of McDonald’s Chiikawa toys and now this, off the top of my head among other grievances.

Not suggest in any way it’s all people of a country, but what is it that encourages these behaviors with these perpetrators?

  3. When I was in university some Chinese students would work with Chinese TAs to openly cheat during exams. Really no surprise here.

  4. Let’s quickly fabricate that Korea also cheats. Then this problem can be solved.

  5. Sounds about right. People were literally pointing out their answers to their neighbour whiles someone got a yellow card for dropping an eraser.

  6. i can somehow understand cheating in highschool or lower during some totally useless subject (to the cheater or in general) but why would you do that on the test you personally wanted to study for and attend. I mean sure, if your employer or something requires that from you but you personally don’t care then i kind of see that point… otherwise just why. especially that foreign languages are usually useful.

  7. Chinese job applicants cheat too and get stuff like interview questions from colleagues because there’s a culture of helping your own to succeed.

Cheating is not shameful it’s rather shameful when you get caught doing it because you weren’t smart enough to pull it off.

  8. JLPT problems are routinely published online on some obscure Chinese websites hours after the test. It blows my mind how they do it.

  9. I’m sorry to say that I’m now surprised when it’s NOT a Mainland Chinese group involved with these kinds of news stories.

  10. Lmao you cheated and get a high score, but your English ability is still shitty af so what is the point 😅
