Concern about law and order is valid in any society, but when that concern consistently targets a specific group, it stops being policy and starts being prejudice. Framing foreign residents as a threat to Japanese safety, culture, or economy isn’t just inaccurate, it’s dangerous. Most of us are here contributing, working, raising families, and following the same rules as everyone else. We’re not asking for special treatment, just fair treatment. If the goal is ‘orderly coexistence,’ it needs to be based on mutual respect, not suspicion and scapegoating. You can’t build a stronger Japan by dividing it.
Japan’s leading problem is an overtaxed and overworked working age population because of low birth rates and increasing numbers of elderly.
Their solution is … oh, umm.. apparently to reduce the working age population ever further by making Japan hostile to the 3.7 million foreigners living in Japan who almost all are working age people on visas (or their families).
Yes, this makes complete sense! Great job Japanese government. Do you need to reload before shooting yourself in the other foot, or did you bring a double-barrelled shotgun?
The Sanseito is slightly worrying but the LDP is just closing loopholes and enforcing rules that have always been around. Sure it will make it harder for people to cheat the system, but the vast majority of the people have nothing to worry about
From the article:
Sanseito: “the number of workers from abroad has grown excessively amid a labor shortage.”
That is surely the party of clowns. So where else are companies going to get workers if there aren’t any domestically?
Thought by the title it was a team to help foreign residents with issues they experience in Japan, how naive I was lol.
Am I gonna get more mail asking me to provide how much money I make and what I use it for and who lives with me and what not?
>The rules that foreign residents in Japan must follow include complying with Japanese laws and regulations, as well as engaging only in activities permitted under their residence status, the government said.
>On Saturday, Naoki Hyakuta, a former novelist and leader of the Conservative Party of Japan, said that foreign workers “disrespect Japanese culture, ignore the rules, assault Japanese people, and steal their belongings.”
Honestly, what is the **ACTUAL** percentage of these so called foreigners that are not following Japanese laws versus the number of those who are doing law abiding residents????
The fuck is this CPJ 🤡 clown is he on about foreigners assaulting Japanese people? The people who assault Japanese people a lot are, as you might have guessed it Japanese themselves. How often are the cases of stalkers harming their victims, or some sad incel stabbing a woman he wilfully wasted his borrowed money on, every other day there are more stories of unemployed man arrested for some fucked up crime, while the foreigner ones are a drop in the ocean, but sure WE are the problem. GTFOH.
It’s sad that they’re using “Japanese First.” Good job on being completely unoriginal.
This is something to be aware of, but so far is a huge nothing burger. Tighten up if you need to, that’s fine.
It’s going to be constantly in the news because of what’s happening in the US. I’m aware, but so far not too concerned.
Same pattern the world over – mainstream parties try to undermine extremists by pandering to their stupid base, but all it ends up doing is legitimising them and increasing their support. Then because they’re also generally anti-tax, anti-regulation and anti-social security, pro rich elites, they get funding from rich elites and it snowballs.
When will we take this outside of Reddit and make the voices of foreign residents be heard??
Sounds like Japan MAGA; Right wingers fear-mongering foreigners and fanning xenophobia for cheap political points sadly never seems to get old. Clowns.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if there are some proofs later that Sanseito’s recent popularity on SNS could be traced back to Russia.
They are the only (AFAIK) party in Japan that wants to remove the sanctions on Russia, and want to strengthen the ties to Russia (and limit the connection to “the west”).
In reality, countries like Germany that have relied too heavily on foreign labor and increased immigration are now facing problems, such as conflicts with immigrants who cannot speak the local language.
Fundamentally, immigrants work for the benefit of their own countries, and if better opportunities arise elsewhere, they tend to move quickly to another country.
Therefore, in the long term, domestic issues should be resolved by the citizens of that country themselves.
While some people label this view as racist, the issues and processes involved are entirely different from the racial discrimination historically practiced in countries like the United States.
