Japanese citizenship when parent is no longer a citizen?

Hi, what happens to my citizenship if my parent is no longer a japanese citizen? Basically when I was born in the US my parent registered me as japanese, I think this was before they became a US citizen (& I assume automatically lost their japanese citizenship). Apparently they also registered my sibling when they were born years later, but by this time I know my parent was already a US citizen so somehow the japanese consulate must not have noticed(?) Is my sibling even a valid japanese citizen then? Was my own citizenship voided once my parent lost theirs? Can I apply for a japanese passport or no? I don’t live in japan nor do I currently have any plans to move there, but I’d like to have it just in case.

Could be important to note also that we’ve moved to a different country since & didn’t notify japanese authorities which apparently you are supposed to do if you’re a japanese citizen(?)

Also- the internet says you need a japanese residence address to apply for a passport, is this true? How does one apply for a passport if they live overseas??!
