Japan-US tariff negotiations: Minister Akazawa speaks by telephone with US Secretary of Commerce twice, on the 3rd and this evening

The Japanese government recently announced that Economic Revitalization Minister Akazawa held two phone talks with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Raimondo about the ongoing tariff discussions between Japan and the U.S.

The first call took place on July 3rd at 8 PM, lasting about 45 minutes, followed by another one-hour call at 8 PM today. The talks focused on confirming both countries' positions on U.S. tariff measures and involved detailed discussions.

The Japanese government has stated that it will continue to actively work with the U.S. to resolve the issue.

Regarding Trump's tariffs, the deadline for temporarily suspending the additional "reciprocal tariffs" is on July 9th. Although Minister Akazawa has visited the U.S. seven times for face-to-face talks, no agreement has been reached yet. Japan is seeking to schedule further high-level discussions.
