“He liked makeup”. A former partner of the suspect Yoichi Hatta, who is wanted in a hit-and-run incident three years ago provided photos of the suspect wearing makeup

A tragic hit-and-run case in Beppu, Oita Prefecture, remains unsolved three years later.

On June 29, 2022, a hit-and-run accident occurred when a light car, traveling at nearly 100 km/h, crashed into two university students, killing one and injuring the other. The suspect, 28-year-old Yoichi Hatta, has been on the run ever since, despite being placed on a nationwide most-wanted list.

The victim, a 19-year-old university student, was suddenly taken from his family, and his mother expressed deep sorrow, saying that the time for healing had been stolen from them. Investigations revealed that just minutes before the crash, the victims had a brief encounter with Hatta, who reportedly confronted them before the tragic accident.

Hatta's actions suggest a violent and reckless personality, with previous reports of erratic behavior. Despite over 10,000 tips coming in, authorities have yet to locate him. A large reward is being offered for any information leading to his arrest.

His former friends and ex-partner describe him as someone who became much more aggressive when behind the wheel, and he has reportedly been using makeup to alter his appearance in an attempt to evade capture.

As the investigation continues, the victim’s family hopes for a resolution and a return to normalcy, free from the constant search for the man who took their son's life.
