Late last night near Hon-Atsugi Station in Kanagawa Prefecture, a man walking in a crosswalk was hit and killed by a car. The car sped away after the crash, and police are investigating it as a fatal hit-and-run case.
The accident happened just before 11 p.m. A passerby called police, saying a pedestrian had been hit and was unresponsive. When emergency crews arrived, they found a man in his 20s or 30s bleeding from the head and unconscious. He was taken to the hospital but later died.
Police say the man was crossing at an unmarked crosswalk when he was struck by a car coming from the northeast. The car fled toward the southwest.
Witnesses said the car was going very fast when it hit the man.
Police are working to confirm the man's identity and are searching for the driver who fled the scene.
