  1. I’m going to do the opposite and go to sleep. Ibaraki gets earthquakes all the time.

  2. my worst nightmare came to life. earthquake hit when i was all soaped up in the shower 😭😭😭

  3. The navitime app gave like a countdown and it was quite on point

    Felt a slight vibration

  4. It was shindo 1 & 2 in Tokyo… a mere shiver. Y’all must be fresh off the boat in here.

  5. I’m sorry what does this mean.. there was a 5.1 earthquake at northern ibaraki like 10 minutes ago?

  6. Japanese friend: “MEHHHHHHH the 震源地 is on land we’ll be fine go to bed” 😂😂😂

  7. So it was an earthquake? I felt my bed moving but i thought it was just my roommate squishing his sausage…

  8. Always intriguing to see the new people who get really concerned over smaller earthquakes because they’re not used to them yet. I grew up in a region prone to them and have lived in Japan so long now that even the 2024 Noto quake wasn’t that crazy to me.

  9. I was in bed and it was almost like a nice rocking motion. Not very worried about it.

  10. Why are we posting relatively minor earthquakes in northern Ibaraki in r/Tokyo?

I lived in this region for much of 2013-2018. They get lots of shindo 2, 3, 4 earthquakes compared to Tokyo. If you live in Hitachi or Tokaimura today, you hardly noticed this quake. This is the sort of quake where you arrive at work and say ‘didn’t feel it I was on my bike’.

OP, I get that you think you are helping but this is just fear mongering. We live in a country where a big earthquake can happen almost anytime, almost anywhere. Posting ‘lookout a quake happened within 200km’ does not help anyone.

  11. Not Japanese, but a 5.1 magnitude is nothing to worry about in menu places, let alone Japan. Goodnight!

  12. what time/where exactly did it happen?

we are in Shinjuku, and did not feel a thing with shopping?
