Former President Trump said on July 4 that the U.S. will begin notifying countries of new tariff rates starting that day, with notifications expected to finish by July 9. The new tariffs will range from 10% to as high as 70%.
Trump didn’t say which countries would face the highest rates, but the proposed 70% tariff would be much higher than the current maximum of 50% announced in April under his "reciprocal tariff" policy.
He also said the U.S. would start receiving revenue from these new tariffs beginning August 1, which is when he plans to start applying them.
