Should I engage another realestate agent?

G’day
I recently arrived in Osaka for work for 6months and got in contact with REA through Suumo. Inspected a couple of apartments in Tanimachi and put an application in for one of them last week. I had no news from the REA so I texted him yesterday and he is response was “assessment is difficult and taking longer because you don’t have current address”.
I suggested if I could list either the hotel I’m staying at or a close colleague’s house (who was happy for me to do so).
I felt his approach was rather passive and I wondered if I should find another REA to help me find an apartment. I don’t know if doing so is an offensive thing to do? I just want to settle and focus on work here.

  1. It is common to switch agents in Japan. Look around SUUMO and contact the listing agent. Agents really represent the property more than you. They will ghost you if they aren’t listing any properties that match you.

  2. It can be a slow process, they may not be the only company carrying that listing. All I would suggest is shop around, and check out the message above mine.

  3. If you are staying only six months I think most agents wouldn’t be too keen to help.

Better to find places targeted for short accommodations for work like oakwood etc.

  4. Hey, you could contact Maido Real Estate. He’s a gaijin that helped us to find an appartment quickly and efficiently. He speaks fluent Japanese as well and knows how to negociate when you have some specific conditions (which can not be easily said from Japanese REA…)
