Upper house race candidates call for controls on foreigners near Tokyo, ignoring reality

TL;DR As the House of Councillors election approaches in Japan, political parties are emphasizing stricter controls on foreigners, particularly in Saitama Prefecture with significant foreign populations. However, this rhetoric risks ignoring local realities and inciting discrimination. While some candidates claim foreigners worsen public safety and receive preferential treatment, data shows foreign residents use public services less frequently and commit fewer crimes than Japanese citizens.

  1. It’s funny how they so often cite “the evil foreigners” abusing social systems, yet never cite a source cause they are wrong.

  2. Fascists and fearmongers will ALWAYS attack foreigners instead of addressing actual problems in local government or society.

Engaging with voters through perpetual grievances and outrage is the garbage politics dominating online media and is designed to broaden gaps between people.

  3. “They’re eating the dogs. They’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people who live there.”

  4. Japan’s immigrant population is about 3%?

Imagine our of 100 people, 97 of them turn on 3 and say they caused all the problems here.

Japan’s problems were caused by stupid, incompetent old men voted for by other stupid, incompetent old men

  5. Well, the standard just blame the gaijin isn’t working, people aren’t getting all excited like they used to be, so something has to be done.

  6. Blamimg the outsiders as scapegoat for unrelated insecurities is a tale as old as time, but what I find interesting is that the politicians of the traditional right got largely sideswiped by this topic. It feels like they’re unable to hit back or agree on the issue and is just trying to ride the veeeery teetering end of the foreigner bad wave so that they can scrape by with as many seats as possible.

  7. I think they are right to resist colonisation to be honest. It has advantages but it also invites tragedy.

  8. Wow r/japan really turned into some weird far left cesspool 🤮

    Unsubscribing from this garbage.
