On July 3rd, Sohei Kamiya, leader of the Sanseito party, gave his first campaign speech for the Upper House election in Tokyo’s Ginza district. He said Japan’s economy has become too weak and blamed the ruling LDP-Komeito coalition, saying they should step down.
Kamiya stressed that the party’s top priority is tax cuts, aiming to lower the overall public burden rate—which includes taxes and social security—from nearly 50% to 35%.
Explaining the party’s slogan “Japan First,” he said it reflects a desire to restore hope in Japan’s future, like when the country was once known for having a large middle class.
He also noted that Sanseito is a grassroots party built through YouTube and online support, calling it a symbol of modern times. His speech ended with loud applause from the crowd of about 100 people.
