  1. The 27th House of Councillors election was held today (20th).

    The LDP suffered a historic defeat, worse than its worst ever, and the ruling party is expected to fall below the majority in the House of Councillors.

    This will be the first time since the war that the ruling party will be a minority party in both the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors.

    These are the predicted number of seats as of 8:00 pm, compiled by JNN based on exit polls and other data.

  2. So Sanseito and the JCP (Japan Conservative Party) are looking at about 18 seats combined (out of 248 in the upper house, half of which were up for grabs).

    Those are the only two parties whose views are outright scary to me. I don’t necessarily support all the others, but none of them make me sick to my stomach.

    So maybe this isn’t a terrible outcome.

  3. I get things are bad but I kinda wish people would look for answer beyond parties offering little more than brain rot. Not just here but across the damn globe.

    “Japanese people first” in a country where 99% of population is Japanese, with one of the most strict immigration laws and policies.

    Are people really this racist and uneducated about what’s really causing their suffering ?

  10. The LDP trotted out old male fossils for the most part while the Sanseito often ran women running populist rhetoric against gaijin.

    I like the LDP as they are the most sane party but they really need to run candidate younger than 50 if they want to gain the majority again

  12. Lol sanseito is a “Japanese first” party. It seems Japan just copies whatever the US political climate is.

  15. It should be promoted more across all democracies that a perfectly legitimate way to vote is by thinking about who is *least* bad. Too many people don’t vote because they think they have to vote for a candidate that completely aligns with their beliefs.

  16. Aren’t DPP and Sanseito even more anti-China/pro-US than the current ruling parties? Why is everyone freaking out?
