On the morning of the 24th, police arrested Takakazu Shirai, a 51-year-old man seen at the Hino Police Station in Tokyo looking tense.
He's accused of breaking into a female college student’s home and stealing two photo booth stickers.
Shirai was the store manager at the student’s workplace, where she worked part-time. He reportedly took a photo of her house key at work, used the key’s number to order a copy, and used it to enter her home—at least 13 times.
The crime came to light by chance on June 17, when one of the student’s friends happened to be visiting and ran into Shirai inside the apartment. He fled the scene.
The student, unaware Shirai was the intruder, later called him to say “a strange man broke in” and asked him to cover her shift.
When she checked her security camera footage, she discovered that the intruder was Shirai.
He admitted to the crime, telling police that being in her room “made him feel calm.”
