Woman who scored in the 600s on TOEIC paid 160,000 yen to have a forged certificate to help her score in the 800s

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has charged three individuals with document forgery related to TOEIC score certificates. A 35-year-old unemployed man from Tokyo and another man from China allegedly helped a 39-year-old woman, an office worker from Kanazawa, forge a certificate claiming she scored in the high 800s on the TOEIC exam. All three admitted to the charges. The woman reportedly needed the certificate for a job abroad and had paid 160,000 yen through a website offering fake certificates. Actually, she scored in the low 600s when she took the test in March. The police discovered the fake certificate at the man’s home while investigating an immigration violation. They also found about 500 fake documents like driver’s licenses and medical certificates on his computer. The two men had previously been arrested and charged with forging residency cards between April and June.
