I have a JP bank account and money in the account, but accessing and using my bank account is not nearly as straightforward as it was in my home country.
So, I have 2 problems:
- my bank card doesn't really do much. I can't use it to buy things online or even purchase things at POS. If a person doesn't have a credit card, how do they handle their bills or pay for things or buy things online in Japan? Is there an app or system that can substitute the functions of a credit card? I want to be able to buy things at POS and also shop online, pay for Disney+, etc.
- A credit card would basically solve all of those problems but I can't get a Japanese credit card. I still have a Canadian credit card, but using that is not very practical (I would need to wire transfer money from my JP account to my Canadian bank account, pay my Canadian card, etc, and all that involves fees).
I got rejected from the Japan Amazon credit application as well as a couple others. I even got rejected for a Nexus secured card, which seems ridiculous to me. I do have a middle name.
What's left? Life? Do I need to apply by paper? How/where do I go to do that?
So I guess my question is a 2 parter. One, how do I get a CC? I'm okay with getting a secure credit card. And two, what alternative options are there for me, what apps/systems can do what a credit card could do?
