A dangerous incident was caught on video on Mt. Hakuundake in Hokkaido’s Daisetsuzan range. A male hiker was seen approaching a bear and spraying it with what appeared to be bear spray.
The bear was searching for food near a trail, and many hikers were waiting at a safe distance. But one man walked within about 20 meters (65 feet) of the bear and sprayed it, alarming the other hikers. Some others also got too close to take photos.
The person who filmed the video stayed safely back and warned that getting too close and provoking a bear is extremely dangerous and should be avoided.
