BROTHER MISSING IN TOKYO! Please help!

Help!! My brother has been missing in Tokyo for nearly 48 hours. We are worried about his safety. He has not "seen" our messages and is not answering our calls.

Age: 26
Height: Approximately 170cm
Hair: Short brown hair
Eyes: Brown
Wears glasses
Speaks English and a small amount of Japanese
US Citizen
Last seen at JR-East Hotel METS Premier Tokyo Bay Shinkiba and Komeda Coffee Shinkibae on July 27

Our family is not in Japan, so we cannot make a missing persons report, but PLEASE contact me if you see him! And if you have more suggestions on how to find him, please let us know. We are also contacting the US Embassy and the police for information.

  1. Is it possible he just lost his phone ?
Is he traveling with any friends you can check in with ?

The other possibility is he has been arrested due to doing something crazy and illegal when drinking etc, but you know him best as to whether that is a possibility.

  2. Most people who are missing, have had a run in with the police and if im not wrong, the embassy are the best people to contact for that stuff.

Police wont confirm or deny they have someone in custody (or will only deny)

  3. You might be a little offended at the suggestion, but with almost all missing person posts here, the person ends up being in the custody of the police. The police won’t immediately notify you, or the embassy. And even after that, many people who are arrested don’t want their embassy and family notified out of embarrassment.

  4. Usually, when messages aren’t being seen, it’s an arrest. He’s probably not having a great time, but is usually physically fine.

It’s anyone’s guess as to why he would be arrested.

  5. Does he have a physical or mental condition that makes you worried for his immediate well being? Because otherwise, as others mentioned, the most common situation is stuck in a jail cell (and the police withholding that information).

  6. 99% chance he is OK. But I’m getting you some phone numbers to contact right now. Give me 15 minutes

  7. Remember that the most likely reason for calls being unanswered is a lost or broken phone. Arrest as others are saying is maybe second! Use other methods like email and Facebook. Although accidents can happen everywhere, Japan is a very safe country statistically.

I wish you best of look finding your brother.

  8. Can you give us some more information?

Why is he in Tokyo? Is he by himself or with friends? How long was he planning on staying here? Maybe he just lost his phone?

If he is alone, why is he alone? Does he frequently solo travel? Is he a drinker? He doesn’t look like a trouble maker.

Regardless, Tokyo is the safest city in the world. I’m sure he’s fine.

  9. Maybe it’s a phone problem? like his lost or broke it. Also makes it difficult to sign in to stuff.

Have contacted the place, where he is staying?

  10. Hello everyone, thank you for your overwhelmingly kind support and suggestions. The US Embassy has been unhelpful, but an extremely kind person from here is currently helping us to file a missing persons report with the Tokyo police. I will update if we have more information.
