Minister Akazawa arrives in the U.S. for eighth ministerial meeting on “Trump tariffs”

Minister Akazawa arrived in the U.S. to lead the eighth round of negotiations regarding the “Trump Tariffs.” He emphasized that both Japan and the U.S. aim to reach an agreement by the deadline of August 1st set by the U.S. government. Upon his arrival near Washington, he stated that the negotiations are about national interest and are not affected by election results.

U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Bessent, speaking on CNBC, said the focus is on securing the best deal for the American people, rather than concerning themselves with Japan’s internal matters. He highlighted the potential pressure from new tariffs set to begin on August 1st, indicating that negotiations might continue beyond this date.
