Following the ruling coalition’s failure to secure a majority in the recent House of Councillors election, several business leaders in Japan expressed their concerns and hopes for stable political leadership.
Tsunoda, Chairman of the Keidanren, commented on the election results as a sign of public dissatisfaction and pointed out that Japan faces significant challenges, such as tackling inflation and ensuring stable supplies of energy and food. He expressed hope for a stable political system centered around the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Komeito.
Niinami, the representative director of theJ apan Association of Corporate Executives , noted that the lack of effective economic policies addressing issues like high inflation and U.S. tariff measures has led to increased concern about government operations. He stressed that any delay in national policy is unacceptable and urged for a quick resolution to the U.S.-Japan tariff negotiations while maintaining fiscal discipline.
Kobayashi, Chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, predicted that political instability is inevitable and emphasized the need for a new political system that earns both domestic and international trust, regardless of the ruling coalition’s structure.
Finally, Katayama, Chairman of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, called for swift collaboration between ruling and opposition parties to address and advance policies that tackle current issues.
