US not rushing to reach agreement by deadline; denies extension of tariff

U.S. Treasury Secretary Besent said on the 21st that, regarding tariff negotiations with various countries and regions, he prioritizes reaching a high-quality agreement rather than just reaching any deal by the August 1 deadline for stopping “reciprocal tariffs.” He also mentioned that there is no rush to make an agreement. On the other hand, Commerce Secretary Ratnik previously expressed a negative view on extending the deadline.

From Japan, Economy Revitalization Minister Ryosei Akazawa arrived in the U.S. on the 21st for the eighth round of tariff negotiations. He aims to reach an agreement before the high tariffs are implemented, but the U.S.'s negotiation approach might affect talks with Japan. Besent made these comments during an interview with U.S. network CNBC.
