Saya from the Sanseito, elected in the Tokyo electoral district, says “We need politics that values Japanese people”

Saya, a 43-year-old newcomer from the Sanseito party, won a very competitive race in the Tokyo district, where 32 candidates were competing for 7 seats. After her win was confirmed shortly after 8 p.m., she appeared at the party’s vote-counting center in Chiyoda Ward and bowed deeply to her cheering supporters.

The Sanseito party had gained momentum after winning 3 seats in the Tokyo assembly election in June. During her campaign, Saya focused on the slogan “Japan First,” expressing opposition to accepting too many foreign workers. This message drew criticism as being xenophobic.

Speaking to reporters, Saya said many people want a government that puts Japanese citizens first. However, she admitted the slogan was misunderstood, adding that she wants to fix the problem of stagnant wages caused by bringing in too many foreign workers.
