17 people aged from their teens to their 70s stung by hornets during tennis tournament in Hokkaido park


According to the Tokachi Wide-Area Fire Department, 17 people were stung by hornets at a park in Memuro Town, Hokkaido, on July 20, 2025.

Around 10:20 a.m., someone from a tennis tournament called emergency services, reporting that a 16–17-year-old boy had been stung by a hornet.

A total of 17 people — including boys and girls in their teens, three men in their 20s, and one man each in their 30s, 60s, and 70s — were stung by what is believed to be yellow hornets.

The incident happened during the Hokkaido Invitational Soft Tennis Tournament at the Obihiro no Mori Sports Park.

All 17 people had only minor injuries and did not need to be taken to the hospital.
