Hi everybody.
Okay, I've done so much research but it doesn't seem like anyone has an answer for m specific situation.
I recently converted my US license (New York State) to a Japanese License back in January (manual conversion). All the usual issues aside (took forever to get an appointment, etc.), I asked about my motorcycle designation as in the states, I have a DM license (M for motorcycle).
However, when I asked about converting the bike license over (I converted my license in Tokyo – Fuchu), they told me that the motorcycle test was closed temporarily.
Granted, my Japanese comprehension is limited (like maybe N5), but I also had my friend call them and ask about it as well.
My friend who helped me call was able to ask about how to go about converting the remaining motorcycle designation. According to the phone operator, if I want to convert my motorcycle designation, I have to go back to do the entire conversion process again. That being said, he didn't sound that confident in his answer.
Has anybody gone through this process before (where they converted a car license first, and then went back to convert a motorcycle license)? Do I have to take the written test again, and then reschedule for a practical test? Or can I just go take a practical test? I'm hope to be able to skip at least some parts of the conversion process (like the written test, given that I literally just did the conversion in January).
I also know that the conversion process is changing starting October so ideally I would get it done before then, but the new online reservation system for all of the Tokyo driving centers is showing no availability…
