I had the full insurance package and was renting a Mazda 2 from Nippon Rent-A-Car. I was driving to practice when I got into a minor accident.
While distracted by a GPS malfunction, I hit a mirror pole on the left side of the road. The car sustained some scratches on the front-left corner (no dents as far as I could tell), and the side-view mirror was damaged — the glass came off but was still attached by the cable. I drove to a safe area, called 110, and managed to reattach the mirror glass, but the electric motor that controls the mirror’s movement (up, down, left, right) was not working for the vertical side. The pole itself was barely damaged, with just a small 2 cm scratch.
After investigating and documenting the scene, the police left without issuing a fine or saying whether I might face legal issues or point deductions. They only gave me a patrol card and told me to contact my insurance company. The insurance company then informed me that I could continue driving until I return the car tomorrow.
Does anyone know if I might face legal issues or risk losing my beginner’s driver’s license due to point deductions? Also, since I had the full insurance package, will I still be liable for any financial damages?
Thank you!
