Hi everyone 🙂
I’m a photographer traveling through Japan in October 2025, and I’ll be spending a few days in Okinawa at the end of the month.
I’m currently working on a photo documentary project in Okinawa, focused on the Blue Zone specifically, on photographing elderly locals and capturing their way of life in an honest, respectful, and unposed way.
After recovering from cancer, this project has become a true matter of the heart for me. I’m deeply interested in how people live long, healthy lives not just physically, but emotionally and socially. My goal is also to raise awareness back in Europe, where interest in healthy living and nutrition is growing.
I’m looking for a local guide or interpreter (JP/EN) who can:
• help me connect with older Okinawans,
• interpret during short conversations or introductions
• and ideally has a good feel for cultural nuance and human connection.
This is a personal, non-commercial project driven by deep respect and curiosity.
Of course, fair compensation is offered.
If you know someone who might be a good fit or if you have ideas on where to look (local networks, community groups, universities, etc.) I’d truly appreciate any leads 🙂
Thanks so much!
