Japan record high of 41.8°C observed north of Tokyo, shattering last Wednesday record of 41.2°C

For our american friends: 41.8 Degree Celsius = 107.24 Fahrenheit.

The last record was 41.2° on July 30. It took 6 days to break that record by 0.6°C.

For reference, it took 6 years to break the previous record (41.1°C in 2018) by 0.1°C.

You might think 0.6° doesn't sound like a big difference… but to put things in perspective, if we broke records by 0.6° every summer, we'd reach 57° in 25 years and all be dead, for real. Let's hope this was a freak event and it doesn't get broken for another decade or two.

  1. Was taking the trains today and the heat at Tokyo Station just slammed into me. Just saps your energy.

  2. When the neighborhood emergency system blasts out a heat warning you know shit is getting real.

  3. Meanwhile, 38 people died of heat stroke in Tokyo over the past two months while not using an AC they had access to. Granted, part of the reason is that the elderly are more dulled to the effect of temperature until it’s too late, but it’s a deadly reminder to not fuck with the heat these days.

  4. I was so surprised that when I was in Bangkok that it was actually less hot. Probably because of the trees between the steeets

  5. there is no climate change it’s all an intention of china xD
    or something like that.

No idea how so many people still think this is completely normal

  6. People keep talking about earthquake prep.

People need to talk more about if some shit goes down and the power goes out in the summer…

  7. That temperature is when the farmers starts crying. I heard it from my friends that work in vegetable farms in Japan, they have massive fail of lettuce farming this year

  8. I have experience living somewhere where the summer months regularly get up to 40-43 and I’ve been on deployment in places that top that. Let me tell you something about the heat in Tokyo just hits differently. Maybe it’s the fact that it just doesn’t cool off rapidly when the sun goes down like in desert or arid climates.

  9. Just think about the continuous heating-feedback phenomena all the ACs do together year after year

  10. As someone who lives in an equally awful climate (Houston) the one saving grace is that when them temps get that hot it usually means lower dew points and humidity.

  11. Please start using parasol. Even for men.

It really turns down the heat by 5-6 degrees. I can’t imagine going out without my higasa anymore
