28-year-old suspect unhappy with the staff during stay falsely booked 580 hotel rooms totaling damages exceeding 17 million yen

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s Shinjuku Precinct announced the arrest of a 28-year-old man from Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture, on suspicion of business obstruction by deception. The man repeatedly made false hotel reservations near Tokyo’s Haneda Airport and canceled them without notice. He allegedly caused over 17 million yen in damages by making false reservations for about 580 rooms in December of last year.

According to the police, between December 16 and 19 of last year, the man booked a total of 258 rooms under a false name at a hotel in Ota City, Tokyo, disrupting the hotel’s operations. During questioning, he denied the charges, claiming that he did not enter any false information. He was arrested on the 14th of this month.

At the time, the man was working as a clinical laboratory technician at the Shimane University School of Medicine Hospital and used a work computer to access the reservation site. He had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the hotel staff’s service during a stay in November, and the police are investigating any connection between this and the bookings.
