Moving to Osaka, where should I live?

Hello, I'm going to be moving to Japan soon, specifically Osaka, and I'm looking for some insight into some areas to look at.

My situation:

  • I'm going to be teaching English full time, so my income is going to be relatively low until I can learn more Japanese.
  • I'm recently single so I'll be wanting to meet some new people and enjoy the night life on the weekends.
  • I lived in Kyoto for a year and a half in a 16 square meter apartment, so apartment size is not an issue.
  • Convenience is very important to me. I like being close to a main train station or main line (I lived next to the Keihan in Kyoto and it was so convenient, especially to get to Osaka).
  • Optional preferences:
    • Living higher than the 1st floor.
    • Modern-ish apartment.

If anyone has any recommendations, let me know! Or if you are renting out an apartment or know someone that is, I'd like to hear about that too. And I'd also like to meet some new people, so if you want to hangout sometime after I've moved there, feel free to DM me. I know some Japanese too 🙂

  1. I live in Kamishinjo and it’s pretty great.

Rent is quite low compared to closer to the city.

Easy and fast access to Umeda and Tenma.

Can also get to Shinsaibashi area directly, but takes longer.

Can also get directly to Kyoto.

It’s on Hankyu line and the semi express stops there.

There are a lot of local bars around and everyone is friendly. Only Japanese people so f you wanna hang with other foreigners you should go to Shinsaibashi.

    Also many supermarkets.

Near to the river too if you want a stroll.

  2. Hirakata City has lots of foreigners at the university there, you could survive with English and minimal Japanese probably. A bit far from the main Osaka City, but reachable via train

  3. Can you give an acceptable range for Joe much you want to spend on your rent? Affordable on a teaching salary can vary from 30,000 to 80,000 depending on your desired budget.
