Japan right-wing party Sanseito’s talk of prewar imperial rescript in teaching stirs unease

TL;DR Japan’s right-wing Sanseito party, which gained seats in the House of Councillors election, advocates for the inclusion of the Imperial Rescript on Education in the curriculum. The rescript, abolished after World War II due to its emphasis on imperial rule, is seen as a taboo in education. While the current administration opposes this idea, there are concerns about the potential influence of Sanseito’s proposals on upcoming educational bills.

  1. As more of this shit comes to light, more people are going to start going, “wait, I just wanted fewer tourists. What the fuck is all this?”

  2. People have to start taking this global rise in fascism seriously – nothing good has ever come from it, and once entrenched it’s really hard to get rid of it.

  3. The problem with trying to resuscitate the old Japanese
Empire is that there are no foreign colonies to establish, and no imperial borders to expand. That period of history is over, for now, and barring decades of global societal collapse it’s hard to see it returning any time soon. Instead, Japan is a resource starved island with a collapsing population loosely sandwiched between a quickly fading hegemonic superpower and an ascendant regional historical rival. Its options are limited and another sakoku era seems impractical given its dependencies.

I predict a sanseito government would still rely on immigration, but it would be far more exploitative than what you see now, with populations heavily monitored, controlled, and segregated into their own ghettos. The forces of oppression normally used to oversee the remote regions of empire will be immediately turned inward, which historically has precedent in Japan, and Kamiya is already testing the waters with his rhetoric (see his recent nostalgic tweet about the Peace Preservation Law targeting political dissidents and in particular communists).

Ultimately, they are still a fledgling party, and they are coming late to this particular right wing grift. Trump’s own domestic and foreign policy failures have dashed the ambitions of other far right parties in places like Canada, and with any luck, some of that stink will also run off on sanseito.

  4. Are they also going to include the Rape of Nanking and unit 731 in the curriculum? Just curious.

  5. Every time I open the news ,some foolish asshole is getting more attention than they should be. Screw experts, screw history, screw enlightenment thinking, screw forward progress, let’s go back to 1939 shall we, because, what else would we do? right right?

In my opinion, social media has allowed the pure sociopathic scum of the world to control narrative and it’s too lucrative for a capitalist society to be able to turn off. I can’t think of any other reason why people are so pissed off about their situation. The way to make things better is by going forwards, not backwards.

  6. If the lessons of history teach us anything it’s that nobody learns the lessons that history teaches us.

  7. B-B-But, but I didn’t vote for that!

Well, if you voted for Sanseito, you actually **did** vote for that. Silly, huh?

If you did not vote, you forfeited your vote, thus leaving more leeway to those voting for parties like Sanseito. Equally silly, huh?

Funny to see all that drama popping up everywhere after the election.

1 – voters starting to realize they may have drunk the Kool-Aid sold to them as vitamin drink

2 – the mainstream media who supported Sanseito’s rise by throwing around the 外人問題 nonsense, pretty much all boiling down to:

-information taken out of (a larger) context

-information never put into (a larger) context to start with

-niche issues made to appear larger than they were

-complete unsubstantiated / made up / BS nonsense with some even taken from X/Twitter as is

3 – the LDP in full drama mode with the usual gang of idiots ready to throw their hats in the ring to sit on the PM-throne and those barking the most for a party election being those who, because of their involvement in the Moonie and the slush-fund scandals, are the most responsible for the LDP’s [p.ss](http://p.ss) poor performance.

4 – the opposition who, at best, got away pretty much empty-handed from the election (i.e. no additional seats) or worse, lost some seats

All of the above taking away focus from other far more pressing issues which have been laid out to rot in the open for now 3-4 decades…

Things are not going to improve any time soon, me thinks…

  8. Japan needs this slap to the face to wake the fuck up, but my gut feeling is there will be very little resistance from the population. They’ll accept Sanseito to save face.

  9. Rightwing nutjobs are imperialistic and pro-war? I am shocked! Shocked, I say!

    /s (just to be sure)

Right Wing Parties are the same everywhere in the world.
