Mercari cancellation and refund

I bought a Coach bag on Mercari and realised it’s fake upon receiving.

I had contacted the seller and ordered a refund. After a long rant about “it isn’t fake it’s just an outlet which is why the bag looks different” and “why didn’t you ask me first why didn’t you buy from the store” (basically victim-blaming lol), they agreed to give me a refund as long as I pay the shipping fee to return the bag. Fine by me.

But then the seller reported me for harassing (LMFAO) and told me the bag must be just as it was when they sent it to me, or else they will cancel the refund. The thing is, I had to tear open the cover for the Coach tag to authenticate it (more proof that the bag is fake), and I’m not sure if the seller will rely on this to claim I have switched the bag or the bag is different now bla bla bla. They seem to be a shitty person, so I won’t put it past them.

Tbh I don’t really think they will throw too much fuss because they have like more than 1k 5* rates despite selling obvious fake goods. There must have been at least a few that came before me and noticed the bag was fake, the seller probably had had to settle quietly with those as well. However, my question is, if the seller refuse to refund, will Mercari protect my rights?
