  1. Not a fan of that subhead. It sounds like the emperor made the speech at Yasukuni.

  2. Good effort by the imperial family to continue boycotting Yasukuni shrine ever since class A war criminals were enshrined there

  3. What China needs most is a war memorial, not a memorial to the Nanjing Massacre.

Why does Japan have a Peace Memorial Museum dedicated to the atomic bombings, but no World War II war memorial? Because Japan is afraid to take responsibility for the war and afraid to remember the shame of defeat, it can only use the atomic bomb memorial to pretend to be a victim.

Taiwanese independence uses the 228 Incident to pretend to be victims, but the 228 Incident is not a historical event from World War II.

Therefore, the psychological approach of China, Japan, and Taiwan toward World War II is to pretend to be victims and evade responsibility for the war that slaughtered their own people.

  4. China has never committed any shameful crimes. Only Japan and Western imperialists.

Isn’t that obvious? Soon, people will come to China and rub the Mao statue for good luck just like they do for the bull on wall street

^ some random post I saw on Reddit

  5. General Kanji Ishiwara:
The war criminals enshrined at Yasukuni Shrine are just a bunch of dogs fighting for power and profit, and are not worthy of worship.

Kanji Ishiwara claimed that he himself was the real war criminal.

  6. Suppose the war criminals were exhumed and placed somewhere nondescript then it would almost be acceptable for the politicians to continue to visit the shrine to honor the departed.

Also, correct me if I’m wrong but Japanese schools don’t revisit the true role that the Imperial Army played and the atrocities committed like modern day German education does about Nazism.

So, wouldn’t it be beneficial for Japanese kids to be at least aware of the elements of fascism and that when they’re told to wear military field caps in school again then their alarm bells should go off. All this is intrinsically linked to having had two atomic bombs dropped on innocent Japanese civilians (but that’s another debate for another day).

  7. I’m from Africa. Help me understand this. Is this equivalent of the U.S formally apologizing to black people for slavery? Or western countries for colonialism?

  8. Wow, no comments about us war crimes, including NUKING 100,000 Japanese civilians?

  9. I don’t see any remorse for evil deeds committed by the japanese. All I read was self pity and remorse for self. I don’t know why so many people think the shameful coward emperor is showing any form of regret for wrongdoings.

  10. Why I people from China still hurt by this and why does Japan need to apologise. Literally nobody alive today was in alive when those atrocities happen. It’s like me apologising for my great grandfather killing somone. I literally don’t know the guy

  11. Keep in mind that they did apologize, but they don’t want any other countries remind them of what they did in the past and they want to remain it that way. They for sure don’t want to own up to what they did, considering they have been trying to actively take down memorials of victims from past japan’s aggression. They want other countries to ONLY remember the atomic bombing when it comes to the subject of japan circa 1931-1945. This is painfully obvious.
And lol at these weebtards constantly posting “whataboutism”.
