Question about an alley in Shinjuku

Hi friends. I was in Tokyo recently, and stumbled on this gorgeous alleyway while wandering Shinjuku and was wondering what it was called (if it had a name). I loved that there was this gorgeous garden and greenery tucked away in an alley – so magical! Would love to intentionally visit again on my next trip. Thank you in advance!

  1. Now it’s just a short cut between Golden Gai and Yasukuni Dori. Also has a pretty solid Yakiniku spot there.

  2. loved it there too, such a peaceful area in usually crazy kabukicho; the temple is pretty too!

  3. If only most streets in Japan were like this! It’d definitely help cool cities quite a bit.

  4. Some of my favorite moments in Tokyo were walking this path late at night on my way back to my hotel.

  5. I walked through here a couple of weeks ago and had the same question. The walkway felt quaint and out of place but still nice.

  6. Yeah i think I’ve been here before, we walked here after finishing our bath at Thermae Yu which is right in this area. Its right next to kabukicho

  7. Ahh yes, the Golden Gai Sampodou. I have spent many a night drying out in front of Champion (a kick ass bar in the area).

  8. if you ever find yourself in need of an used sex toy, the public toilet in this alley is probably your best bet

  9. Wow so crazy, on our first trip to Japan, we ended leaving Tokyo for Kyoto immediately and saving out time in Tokyo for the end. We booked a last minute Airbnb in shinjuku and got off the train at about 10 pm and walked through this alley (thanks to maps) dragging our suitcases and were so curious about it. When I saw this picture I was like, oh wow could that it? I just checked and yep, it is. Very cool to recognize it on sight.
