Need help understanding income taxes.

Hello

I am currently in Japan with a working holiday visa and looking for a baito.

1-

Yesterday I did an interview and asked to work 8 hours per day 4 times a week.

I was told that it would be a full time and not a part time baito and that if i earn more than a certain amount (130000 something) I would need to pay more taxes -or something.

Because this is new to me, I didn’t get what kind of tax they were talking about, and because the interview wasn’t going so well, I didn’t dare push for more info.

Eventually I told them I was OK with working 2 days/week 8 hours/day.

Does anyone have an idea what tax it was about to?

I thought I did terribly at this interview but turned out I am going again tomorrow for a 2nd interview so it’d be a good time to ask more questions but I’m not sure what to ask.

2-

If i understand correctly, as a working holiday visa holder I am not considered a permanent resident in Japan and therefore I should pay 20% of taxes on my incomes.

Is it correct ?

Do I need to declare any income or are the taxes withheld directly on my paycheck ?

3-

I worked for a few days back in may and I think I didn’t pay taxes.

Let’s say the minimum wage in that prefecture was 1100yen/hour, then I earned exactly 1100yen x the hours I did.

Does that mean that :

1- the company (it was a small restaurant) didn’t declare me.

2- the company did declare me but I have to declare my incomes and pay taxes myself ?

I did provide my "MyNumber" to the restaurant.

As for now, I need and want to work at least 30 hours / week, maybe more if I can because 20% withhold on income is crazy. Minimum wage where I live is 975yen/hour.

What’s in my best interest ?

I am so confused right now, any help would be highly appreciated.
