  1. So, summer is spooky season in Japan, I think. Know of any cool going-ons in Tokyo? Particularly related to oni and yuurei/more traditional JP art, and not haunted houses.

Zenshoan has a small yuurei exhibit for this month (decent merch, too). Last September, Ota Memorial Museum had an incredible exhibition on yuurei and oni. That’s about all I know, unfortunately.

  2. I need to send something to my mom in the US. Can I ship it in an old Amazon box or do I need to buy an unmarked box?

  3. Is that ドキュメンタル (Last One Laughing) **UK** version available on prime video here?

I can find loads of regional versions but not that one – please link if you have it. Thanks.

  4. Settle an argument for me and my husband:
I insist that milk flavored ice cream and vanilla flavored ice cream are not the same. He says they are the same flavor, just different names.

  5. Any idea what stings that does not leave in a stinger and can pierce those arm covers for blocking the sun?

I was cutting and pulling kudzu down earlier and got got by something. I thought I saw a wasp earlier of some variety (we have a few here in Tohoku), but I couldn’t tell clearly what it was. Got me on the wrist just behind my watch and felt like liquid fire for about 5-10 seconds, then just kinda hurt like a 5-6 on the pain scale for about 5 mins, then hovered around a 2 with occasional burning but mostly dull aching for the next 30 mins. Still feels a bit off now a couple hours later, but doesn’t generally hurt anymore. There was some localized swelling for maybe 30 minutes and now I have a tiny raised bump the size of a ballpoint pin tip as the only evidence.

We definitely have several varieties of wasps, assassin bugs, beetles, bees (though I think bees leave behind their back half on a sting and I’m likely still quite allergic to them), abu, and I’m sure more. I’ve not been stung by a wasp in decades, so I don’t recall how it felt. Any ideas from that description about what it is?

  6. Hi, I’m a new student resident, just arrived and will be living in Tokyo for a few years!

Do major electronics stores here generally accept trade-ins of stick-drifty controllers for a little bit of store credit/points that I can put toward a new controller?

Sorry, I’m used to doing this at Gamestops in the US, but wasn’t sure where to go, or if this is one of those things where I should recycle it as small household electronics per my ward’s trash collection rules instead.

  7. Why are there so many stations with leaking ceilings, and buckets, plastic sheets and tubes, or other simular workarounds in Japan?

I’ve seen this even in Otemachi, but also in less important stations in Tokyo.
