When I was a kid, my mother pointed at the dohyo (土俵) and said, "That's where the rikishi (力士) fight." Above the dohyo, there is a big square box, which is about 6.5 meters across, called the "suspended roof (吊り屋根)." I believed it was connected to another dimension, and that the rikishi and even the audience were inside it. I already knew Santa Claus wasn't real and that you couldn't ride on clouds, but I still seriously believed this ridiculous thing lol
It doesn't have to be from your childhood, but what's something about Japan you once believed that turned out to be impossible? Or, has anyone ever actually seen rikishi fighting in a different dimension?
Note: I also honestly thought that menma, the bamboo shoots in ramen, were made from disposable chopsticks (割り箸).
