Rakuten posts deficit of 124.4 billion yen in June interim period

Rakuten Group reported a net loss of 124.4 billion yen for the first half of 2025. This marks the sixth year in a row the company has posted a loss for this period. The mobile phone business continues to drag down profits, though its performance has slightly improved.

The loss widened compared to the same period last year (which had a 75.9 billion yen loss), mainly because of temporary issues related to financing.

Sales revenue rose by 10.3% to 1.159 trillion yen, and operating loss shrank to 6.6 billion yen, down from 51.6 billion yen last year. Rakuten’s core businesses like online shopping (Rakuten Ichiba), travel booking (Rakuten Travel), and financial services (banking and credit cards) all performed well.
