So basically I am 32, have living in japan on my bucket list and I feel like the longer I put this off the more likely I am going to end up not doing it, and I am considering my options.
I have a stable career as a software developer back home with 3 years of experience. I know japanese to a degree, like conversations feel a bit painful because I am always missing words, but I can communicate. It's probably about N3 or a bit better. I also have been to japan twice for a total of six weeks, so while I don't completely understand everything that happens there I know my way around quite well usually. I also have about 50k in savings.
What I am thinking is that my options are either working in japan as a software dev, this is the least problematic financially, but I feel like with japanese work culture I am not going to have much time doing the things I want to do there. If I could work part-time as a software dev that would probably be optimal, because the salary will probably cover a large part of expenses, but is that even realistic to find?
The other one would be going to a language school, but of course this is going to set me back 10k+ if I don't work alongside it, and if I do then it will not be that different to a full time job. There is the added benefit of having a potential social network at the beginning though.
The third option would be getting a tourist visa and essentially being a tourist for 6 months, but that is of course also not cheap because I won't be able to rent a normal apartment and will have to rent airbnbs and the like(I think?).
Am I missing anything?
