We are planning a 3 week trip for a family of four with 2 teen girls in June. Trying to reduce the number of hotel switches by choosing 3 base cities: Tokyo, Kyoto and looking for a 3rd base city. In Tokyo, we will do day trips like Disney Sea. We will also go to Teamlabs, Harujuku, department stores like Don Quijote. In Kyoto, we will also do day trips to Osaka, Nara, temples.
Trying to decide between a week of beach or mountains in June. It will be hot but rainy in June. Would like to balance out the city time with nature. We don’t plan to see every temple, or every tourist attraction and are okay with just exploring the towns for the atmosphere and beauty.
We will travel by train or bus- will not be self driving so a base city that’s accessible.

How do the beaches compare to Hawaii?
Are these towns recommended for 5-7 days stay? Our teens might get bored with too much relaxation but like day hikes, snorkeling, beach, shopping and eating.
