2-week Japan Itinerary (Second time)

Hi everyone! This is my first time posting here, and I’d love some advice for a 2-week itinerary to Japan in late February to early March 2026. We’re a 30-year-old couple, and this will be my second time in Japan and his third. We’re early risers, enjoy sightseeing during daylight hours, and like to relax in the evenings. Good food is a top priority for us!

We've put together a rough itinerary, but we're not sure if it might feel too rushed or if we’re spending too much time in certain places. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

  • Day 1: Arrive to Tokyo at noon
  • Day 2: Tokyo
  • Day 3: Travel from Tokyo to Shuzenji Onsen (Izu) and spend the day there
  • Day 4: Izu Panorama Park and just relax in Ryokan
  • Day 5: Travel from Izu to Kyoto
  • Day 6: Kyoto
  • Day 7: Kyoto (maybe daytrip to Nara)
  • Day 8: Kyoto
  • Day 9: Kyoto -> Takayama
  • Day 10: Takayama
  • Day 11: Takayama -> Kanazawa
  • Day 12: Kanazawa
  • Day 13: Kanazawa -> Tokyo
  • Day 14: Tokyo
  • Day 15: Tokyo
  • Day 16: byebye 🙁

Thank you very much for reading!

  1. Seems like a pretty solid trip. Have you considered doing part of the Nakasendo Trail? It could be a good stop on your way back from Kyoto.

  2. I would say 3 days in kanazawa is too much. 24 hours there is enough for me, and id add 2 days in kiso valley
