How to book Hashidate train tickets online directly with JR West. (Kyoto – Amanohashidate)

  1. Use this link and only this link: https://www.westjr.co.jp/travel-information/en/plan-your-trip/routes-schedule/

  2. Scroll to the middle of the page and use "Timetable & Route Finder" to type in Kyoto to Amanohashidate. Hit search. It will bring you to another site. Choose the date and time and search.

  3. Next page will show you 3 results. The one with 0 transfer is the direct Hashidate train.

  4. Hit "Reserve Tickets for This Route" and it will bring you to e5489 site. From there, it is your average JR booking experience.

This is the only working way I have found. This is one of those classic Japanese web design faults. Other booking options requires you select the route which isn't listed. This train route doesn't even show up on JR West train route selection scree.
