We will be traveling to Nagano at the end of November. We are staying two days in Nagano proper at the Hotel Metropolitan before picking up a car and doing a road trip through the alps. We had planned on using the second day to explore Matsumoto. However, since we basically have to drive right past Matsumoto on our way to Okuhida Onsen, I'm wondering if we should just spend a half day in Matsumoto before continuing to Okuhida (since we can't visit Kamikochi at that time of year) and explore Nagano some more while staying there? Obviously heading to Zenkoji temple and several breweries and sake breweries, but wondering if there are some other great things to do right around Nagano city?
Or, should we add an extra night in Matsumoto to the trip? Thanks!
