Question about changing visa status and work history in Japan

Hi everyone,
I’m currently on a work visa in Japan, but I’m considering switching to a student visa.
My concern is: if I change to a student visa, will my work history (for residency/permanent residency application purposes) be interrupted?
I want to make sure my years of work don’t reset, since my goal is to apply for permanent residency in the future.

Has anyone here experienced this, or knows how it works?

  1. People say you need 5 years of 3m+ yen per year but to be honest I think that’s horseshit.

If you have ample savings and can prove it income doesn’t matter because it’s not about what we make but how we save/invest that dictates true financial security.

So no, it won’t directly impact unless you’re living paycheck to paycheck.

  2. Your time as a student will count for the 10 years residency, but you need to have been working for 5+ of those. For example, 6 years as a student and 4 years working isn’t eligible for PR despite reaching 10 years
